Originally from London, I moved to Melbourne, Australia in August 2011. In my younger years, I always avoided makeup – I found it completely inaccessible, expensive, and very difficult to find products to suit my skin tone and skin type. In the last couple of years make up, especially more affordable brands have improved so much that I started getting interested in make up. Now…I…am hooked!
I have a huge passion for make up and I am ALWAYS on the hunt for foundations and concealers that suit my skin. Having dark skin, and looking for make up (especially online) can be a frustrating process. In my experience in London, you cannot simply go down to the pharmacy and buy a few foundations to try out at an affordable price. You are forced to buy high end products, which do not necessarily suit you, are obviously expensive and not always available to everyone who may live outside a major city. I also find that most adverts on television, magazines, even other beauty blogs I have read, assume the reader is of a fair complexion making it difficult to relate to. Skin undertones are a tricky thing, one size does not fit all.
When I moved to Australia, I found that I was in the same boat, with even less to choose from, and what I could choose was even more pricey!
My goal is to encourage drugstore/pharmacy brands in the UK and Australia to WIDEN their range of shades, we do not all come in 3 shades of beige! I absolutely adore makeup, beauty, skincare and cosmetics and want to be able to go out and have the same choice of products at my disposal as anyone else.
By starting this blog, I also want to be the first Australian (honorary anyway!) beauty blogger with dark skin. I want to bring you swatches of products and build an extensive resource for darker complexions in Australia and anyone else who is interested too! Everyone and anyone of any complexion don’t be excluded, join me on my journey!
